Standard Operating Guidelines
RESPONSE OF NON-DISPATCHED PERSONNEL
1. PURPOSE.
To ensure the safety of firefighters and the public during emergency responses, to ensure that all responding firefighters are properly covered by insurance, and to ensure that Incident Commanders are fully aware of all personnel on the scene.
2. SCOPE.
This procedure shall apply to all fire departments and firefighters represented by the Oktibbeha County Fire Commission or the Oktibbeha County Fire Association.
3. PROCEDURE
Only personnel of fire departments actually dispatched may respond to emergency incidents, except that personnel of other departments who happen to be in the immediate area of an incident may respond in non-emergency mode.
Only personnel of fire departments actually dispatched may use warning lights.
State law prohibits the use of sirens on personally owned vehicles.
All personnel, especially those of non-dispatched departments, must report to the Incident Commander for instructions before participating in any activity.
