ALCOHOL, TOBACCO AND CONTROLLED SUBSTANCE USE

1. PURPOSE.

To minimize risk to life and health of firefighters, ensure compliance with state and federal laws, and safeguard the positive public image of the fire department.

2. SCOPE.

This policy shall apply to all firefighters and visitors to the fire station.

3. POLICY

a. Alcohol and controlled substances

Consumption of alcohol or controlled substances inside the fire station or on the grounds is prohibited. Personnel will not consume alcohol or controlled substances while on duty, nor will they respond to any incident while under the influence of alcohol or controlled substances.

b. Tobacco

The fire station is a tobacco-free building. Use of any tobacco product inside the building is prohibited. Personnel are strongly encouraged to refrain from use of tobacco products while on duty.
